Some of the 5-8 grade students from the Bond County Unit 2 schools participated in the District 6 southern Illinois Music Educators Association choir festival, Saturday, November 18, 2023. Fourteen students participated in the 5-6 grade choir and 8th Grade GJHS student Alyvia Davis auditioned and qualified on soprano for the 7-8 Treble Choir. Wynn Wilson auditioned and qualified on baritone for the top 7-8 grade Mixed Choir. Students practiced after school for many weeks with their directors Ryan Thomason — GJHS, Kim Lugge — GES, and Elizabeth Wilkinson — Pocahontas. The students practiced for four hours or more in each combined choir performing on two separate concerts that afternoon.
