All they needed was defense and a well-timed run.

Well, a trio of well-timed runs.

Greenville forced 23 turnovers used three crucial runs to pull even, then pull away from Glen Carbon (Father McGivney) for a 44-37 victory in the third place game of the Columbia Tournament on Nov. 18.

The win pushed GHS to 2-1 on the season while the Griffins fell to 1-2.

“We thought going into the game that we could pressure them and create some turnovers for ourselves and our kids did just that,” said GHS coach Quin Hammann. “They have some really good post players, but their guards are inexperienced and we were able to capitalize on that with pressure both in the full-court and half-court. Credit to our kids for being aggressive and forcing them into some key turnovers that helped propel us to the win.”
