AMVETS help Thrift Store changeover

Each September and March, the HSHS Thrift Store volunteers clear the building of leftover merchandise and restock it with goods for the next season. In the week before, they reduce stock by offering increasing sales — 33%, 50%, 75%, and the popular $5 and $1 bag sales. Even so, lots of things remain.

In order to continue attracting customers, the store needs fresh goods. So they clean house. AMVETS Post 140 helps with the transition, providing U-Haul trucks to carry the unsold merchandise to Chicago. More importantly, they provide labor and strength to load the trucks. Those trucks go to Chicago-area stores operated by Illinois AMVETS organizations. They hope to waste nothing. Those proceeds help Illinois veterans.
