The Greenville Chamber of Commerce honored Sharon Ahern Thursday, June 8, by recognizing her as the 30th recipient of the Gerald Turley Award.

Friends, family, and coworkers gathered at the SureStay banquet room to celebrate her accomplishments.

Alan Gaffner, former mayor and former hospital staff member, spoke about Sharon’s work as a volunteer, especially as it relates to volunteer activities at HSHS Holy Family Hospital (Utlaut Memorial/Greenville Regional). Sharon has served as an officer of the hospital auxiliary in a variety of capacities. She was responsible for moving the accounting system from paper to computer and developed the modern investment system. Gaffner said “no other hospital the size of ours has an auxiliary that raises as much money as ours. In the past 24 years, the auxiliary has donated more than eight million dollars to the hospital for equipment and upgrades.” She continues to volunteer as an auxiliary officer as well as a surgical hostess. She also gives time to the food pantry, the garden club, and the Simple Room. For more information see the June 13, 2023 edition of The Greenville Advocate.
