Baseball Comets split games to begin season

When the top of the lineup produces 11 RBIs, good things will follow.

Just ask the Greenville High School baseball team.

All that production at the top plus limiting damage defensively led to a big 14-6 win in their opener at East Alton (Wood River) on Tuesday.

“Total team effort, everyone contributed to this quality win,” said GHS coach Todd Hutchinson. “Our pitchers did a great job of minimizing potential big innings and offensively our guys executed some really important philosophical beliefs by collecting big innings and driving in nine two-out runs.”

Both teams scored in four innings, but GHS made the most of their scoring chances, piling up four big innings to zero for EAWR. For more information see the March 17, 2023 edition of The Greenville Advocate.
