Staunton was no match for the Comets football program: the Comets opened the season with a 40-0 victory at Don Stout Field.

“The kids played well in all three phases,” coach Todd Hutchinson said about the Comets’ Aug. 26 victory. “(It was a) great way to start the season.”

The matchup against Staunton was flexed twice; moved from Friday, Aug. 25, to Saturday Aug. 26, and moved from Staunton to Greenville at the last minute. Both schools’ administrations, coaches, and maintenance did an excellent job responding to the week’s adversity. For more information see the August 29, 2023 edition of The Greenville Advocate.
