The National Weather Service (NWS) conducted a storm spotter training class Tuesday evening at the SMART Center. Attendees learned a variety of information, from understanding tornado genesis to the kinds of weather reports the NWS is looking for.

A brief talk was given by a representative from The Red Cross, who respond in the case of natural disasters. Financial help starts at $500 in order to get victims through the first 48-72 hours. Every eight minutes, someone in the United States is impacted by some sort of disaster. The Red Cross currently has 300,000 volunteers worldwide.
