School board votes to sell Sorento School

The Bond County Community Unit 2 school board voted 5-2 last Wednesday, July 19, to place the Sorento School building for sale.

The board closed the Sorento School at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. It has been a full academic year without classes or students.

After an executive session at the meeting, the board approved a resolution directing the sale of the school building by sealed bids.

Stephanie Gerl and Don Wall, board members from Sorento, moved to defer the decision until the next meeting. The motion failed, with Dylan Carr, Aimee Frey, Ryan Reavis, Adam Simmonds, and Randi Workman opposing a delay.
