Three killed in Greyhound passenger bus crash

On Wednesday, July 12, at approximately 1:54 a.m., an accident occurred on Interstate 70 westbound milepost 27 Silver Lake Rest Area in Madison County, according to the Illinois State Police. According to preliminary information, Troop 8 responded to the location for a crash involving a Greyhound passenger bus and multiple commercial motor vehicles.

The initial investigation indicates the Greyhound bus with passengers was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 and struck three commercial motor vehicles which were parked on the exit ramp to the Silver Lake Interstate 70 westbound rest area. Three fatalities are confirmed and multiple others were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, four by helicopter and at least 10 by ambulance. No one in the commercial motor vehicles were injured. Traffic on westbound I-70 was closed between mileposts 28 and 24.
