The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that repairs to the bridge over the CSXT Railroad just east of Mulberry Grove on U.S. 140, near the intersection with Route 140, will be closed beginning June 12.
The repairs include deck patching, joint replacements and deck overlays. The repairs will improve the safety of the bridge and provide motorists with a smoother driving surface. A detour utilizing Interstate 70 and the interchanges in Mulberry Grove and Vandalia will be posted. Work is expected to be completed by late August.
Only local traffic will be permitted on U.S. 40 between Illinois 140 (County Road 1250 N) east of Mulberry Grove and Randolph Street in Vandalia during the bridge repairs. Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour and should allow for extra travel time. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
