Arrest made in connection with GU threats

A suspect has been arrested in connection with threats made recently against Greenville University students.

According to Chief of Police Stefan Neece, two threatening letters were found on the Greenville University campus on Feb. 14 and 15. These letters contained threats made toward Black students on campus.

On Thursday, Feb. 16, Deyondri M. Joy, 21, of Centralia, was taken into custody in connection with the threatening letters. On Friday, Feb. 17, Joy was charged in Bond County Circuit Court for Making a Terrorist Threat (class X felony) and Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat (class 1 felony). According to a representative from State’s Attorney Dora Mann’s office, Joy is charged with two counts of each for each letter sent.
