The Character Education program in Bond County was established 19 years ago and has been seeking to improve the lives of students and the community as a whole ever since.

Character Education Coordinator Carol Knight met with The Advocate recently to explain what the program was all about. She said there was a component of character in the No Child Left Behind Act, and while that ultimately failed, the component for character took hold. When Sanford McDonnell retired from being CEO of McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, his second career was to establish Character Plus in Saint Louis. That program has since expanded across the border to the Bond County area. For more information see the February 3, 2023 edition of The Greenville Advocate.
